Approval for new HUSK houses to be developed in Amble: Addressing Housing Needs in the North East

Approval for new HUSK houses to be developed in Amble: Addressing Housing Needs in the North East.

We’re delighted to announce five new schemes have been approved by Northumberland County Council’s North Planning Committee.

The developments will create 15 new homes for elderly residents in the Amble area.

These projects will transform several unused garage sites into a mix of two and one-bedroom bungalows and are specifically designed to meet the needs of elderly residents, providing them with comfortable and affordable homes.

The demand for affordable social housing has dramatically increased in Northumberland over the last few years.

A recent housing survey highlighted a significant demand for bungalows in Amble.

Using our patented solution, we will optimise the use of existing spaces by increasing the amount of social housing in these local areas, without the need to develop green space.

Councillor Colin Horncastle, Cabinet Member for Looking After our Environment, said: ” The Council remains steadfast in its mission to expand affordable housing for all residents of Northumberland and this scheme is a welcome addition to our efforts. We are committed to building new, energy-efficient properties to the highest standards, ensuring low running costs for our residents.

“Every resident has the right to a good quality, energy-efficient home that is designed to meet their specific needs. We will continue to prioritise and support initiatives that provide sustainable, energy-efficient, and affordable housing solutions.”

Ellen Hagan, Construction and Partnerships Director at HUSK, said: “We are dedicated to delivering sustainable, affordable social housing to communities.

“These approvals are a testament to our teams’ hard work and commitment to making a positive impact. By integrating innovative construction methods and forming strong partnerships, we’re not just building houses – we are creating homes.

“It’s incredibly exciting to see another vision come to life and to know that we’re making a real difference in people’s lives.”

HUSK’s development of new housing in Amble represents a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of the community, particularly for elderly residents.

This initiative not only addresses immediate housing needs in Amble but also sets a standard for how other local governments can effectively utilise existing brownfield sites to benefit their communities.
